SOP for Safety in Quality Control

OBJECTIVE
To lay down a procedure to provide general guidelines to be followed in the Quality control department for safety purposes.

SCOPE
This SOP shall apply to all persons working in the Quality Control Laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITY
Execution: All persons working in the Quality Control Laboratory
Checking: Chemist and above – QC department.

PROCEDURE
  • Follow the instructions given by the Head of the Department from time to time.
  • Wear an apron and safety shoes when entering the laboratory.
  • Wear protective garments like masks, gloves, and goggles, while performing critical hazardous tests. Refer to MSDS of related chemicals or solvents wherever required
  • Read the label before opening any container.
  • Open the container of hazardous chemicals carefully in the fuming hood.
  • Take precautions while extracting and using hazardous chemicals.
  • Avoid the use of contaminated apparatus and instruments.
  • Seal containers tightly after use.
  • During the handling & use of chemicals do not eat or drink anything.
  • Hands should be washed properly after handling and testing of chemicals.
  • Seek medical attention immediately if affected by chemicals and use appropriate first aid until medical attention is available.
  • Store the chemicals and solvents at specified temperatures mentioned on the labels.
  • All flammable solvents should be stored away from sources of fire.
