SOP for Preventive & Routine Maintenance For Air Compressor

What is the function of an air compressor?
An air compressor is a pneumatic device that converts power (using an electric motor, diesel or gasoline engine, etc.) into potential energy stored in pressurized air (i.e., compressed air). By one of several methods, an air compressor forces more and more air into a storage tank, increasing the pressure.

What are the 3 types of compressors?
The three most common air compressors are reciprocating rotary screw, and centrifugal.

What is the difference between a pump and a compressor?
Pumps have the ability to move liquids or gases. Compressors typically only move gas due to its natural ability to be compressed. Pumps and compressors both have very high pressure rises. There are different types of compressors that move air into a chamber.

OBJECTIVES
To reduce downtime.
Reduce maintenance costs.
Maintain machine efficiency as much as possible.

SCOPE
The schedule contains a summary of the maintenance instructions and maintenance measures.
Safety of operator, equipment contents.

RESPONSIBILITY
Engineering Manager: Enforcing and monitoring the program and making available all resources required from tools to manpower.

PROCEDURE
  • Replace all disengaged packing e.g gaskets, O rings, and washers, and consult the dealers for available maintenance kits.
  • The longer interval checks must also include the short interval checks.
  • Whichever comes first the Engineering Manager may overrule the maintenance schedule, especially the service intervals depending upon the environment and working conditions of the compressor.
