SOP for Cleaning of Raw Water Tank

PURPOSE
To make the tank free from chemical impurities as well as to maintain microbiological control in raw water and hence improve the quality of raw water.

This procedure is applicable at XYZ Ltd.

PROCEDURE
  • Inform the Q.C. Department 24 hours before cleaning so they can collect the sample for microbiological analysis.
  • Stop collecting the water approximately 12 hours before cleaning.
  • Drain water from the tank.
  • Manually, collect all the sand that may be present. Remove water from the bottom of the tank, below the drain valve.
  • Scrub the sidewalls and floor of the tank with a brush. Don’t use detergent or soap.
  • Clean with fresh water and drain. Repeat this at least 3 times.

Sanitation
  • Start the pump and fill the tank.
  • Add Sodium hypochlorite 0.1%, and leave for sanitization for 4 hours. After sanitization time completion drain the sodium hypo chloride solution.
  • Wash the raw water tank till the presence of Chloride residue is absent.
  • Collect the wash water sample and send to the QC Dept.
  • After QC Approval for the absence of Chloride residue use the raw water storage tank.
