SOP for Operation and Calibration of Bulk Density Apparatus

OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for operating bulk density apparatus.

RESPONSIBILITY
Q.C. Chemist / Q.C Executive.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Manager Q.C.
PROCEDURE

Operation
  • The apparatus consists of the following switches.
  • Connect the instrument to a 230 V supply.
  • Switch ON the instrument.
  • Weigh at least 10 g of sample and transfer it to a 50 ml (or 25 ml which is suitable) measuring cylinder. Put a stopper on it.
  • Fix the measuring cylinder on the Bulk density stand.
  • Set the apparatus to the required strokes by adjusting switches.
  • Put on the STRT switch.

  • The apparatus starts working and the stroke rate is displayed on the screen.
  • After the completion of the specified stroke. The apparatus will go OFF automatically with a buzzer.
  • For repeating the analysis. Press STRT.
  • Switch off the MAIN after the analysis.
  • Calculate the bulk density of the sample by measuring the volume of the sample on the measuring cylinder, occupied after setting it specified strokes.

Calibration
  • Put ON the mains.
  • Set the apparatus for 50 strokes by adjusting the push button.
  • Put STRT on the switch.
  • Counter the number of strokes.
  • Change the setting to the following number of strokes and check the actual strokes.
  • Report the results in the format given in Annexure I.
  • If the calibration is not proper then report to the department head for appropriate action.

FREQUENCY
