OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for Cleaning of Glassware used in the quality control Laboratory.
SCOPE
This SOP shall be applicable to clean the glassware in the Quality Control Laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITY
Execution: Lab Attendant - QC department
Checking: Chemist and above – QC department.
PROCEDURE
- Wear goggles and hand gloves before cleaning of glassware
- Drain out the left-over solutions of the glassware into the sink in the washing area
- Clean the glassware such as flasks, beakers, pipettes, burettes, bottles, etc. in the following manner:
- First, wash the used glassware properly with tap water
- Then scrub/Rinse the glassware with liquid soap solution
- Rinse the glassware properly with tap water
- Again rinse 3 to 4 times with Purified water.
- Drain the water from the glassware.
- Ensure the cleanliness by visual checking and if it is not clean then clean it by using dilute HCl and nitric acid
- Keep cleaned glassware in an oven at about 50°C, and use dried glassware for analysis.
- Cleaning of glassware with dilute HCl/Dilute nitric acid (Wherever necessary)
- Rinse the glassware with dilute hydrochloric acid/nitric acid or if required allow it to stand overnight
- Rinse with plenty of tap water.
- Again rinse 3 to 4 times with Purified water.
- Ensure the cleanliness by visual checking and if it is not clean then discard the glassware.
