SOP for Operation of the Muffle Furnace

OBJECTIVE

To lay down a procedure for the Operation of the Muffle Furnace.

SCOPE

This procedure is applicable for Muffle Furnace installed in Quality Control Department, at PharmaInfo Limited.

RESPONSIBILITY

Execution: Chemist and above – QC department.

Checking: Asst. Manager and above – QC department

PROCEDURE

• Switch on the furnace.
• The furnace temperature is pre-set using the temperature controller cum indicator as follows.
• Press the red switch and rotate the black knob till the desired temperature is indicated in the digital display.

• Release the red switch. The digital display will show the present furnace temperature.
• Allow the furnace to stabilize at the set temperature for some time.
• Put off the furnace and then open the door and introduce the sample.
• Close the door properly and switch on the furnace again.
• Switch off the furnace while loading or unloading
