SOP for Operation of Fume Hood

PURPOSE

For proper handling of the instrument and to save the environment of the QC laboratory from hazards and corrosive chemicals.

SCOPE

This SOP applies to all hazards, volatile and corrosive chemicals in PharmaInfo Ltd.

PRECAUTIONS

• The hood never be operated with the sash in the full open position.
• Never place your head inside the hood.
• External air movement can affect the performance of the hood.
• Avoid rapid body movement.

• Do not open the sash rapidly.
• Wear gloves and other protective clothing if contact with contaminants is a hazard.
• Clean spills immediately.

PROCEDURE

• Check the electric connection and mechanical setup of the instrument.
• Check the cleanliness of the instrument.
• Raise the sash at about 15-inch height.
• On the light.
• On the blower switch.
• Place the bottle or container from which the chemicals to be transferred at least 6 inch inside the sash.

• After transferring the required materials immediately close the stopper of the container.
• Clean any spill immediately.
• After completion of the operation off the blower switch.
• Clean the working bench as per SOP.
• Off the light and close the sash.
