SOP for Operating Procedure of Vernier Caliper

OBJECTIVE

To lay down a procedure for the operation of the vernier caliper

SCOPE

This procedure applies to the QC/production department in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facilities of XYZ Limited.

RESPONSIBILITY

The Production staff and QA Supervisor are responsible for the implementation of the process.

The In-Charge is responsible for the execution and compliance of the procedure.

PROCEDURE

• Before using the caliper, clean it using a lint-free cloth.
• Install the battery at the front side of the vernier caliper.
• Press the “ON/OFF” switch to put on the power.

• Press the “ZERO” switch to adjust the zero set of the caliper. At this position, both the measuring jaws should touch each other.
• Recheck and ensure the zero position is correct by moving the jaws using a thumb roller.

• Press the “in/mm” switch and select the required unit range that is in inches or millimeters respectively.
• Keep the object of which thickness has to be measured in between the jaws and note down the reading from the digital display.
• Use the lower jaws for measuring the thickness, use the upper jaws for measuring the internal diameter, and for depth measuring, use the depth-measuring blade.

• Repeat the same procedure for measuring other objects.
• After usage press the “ON/OFF” switch to put off the power.
• Clean the vernier caliper by using a lint-free cloth and keep it safely in box.
