OBJECTIVE
To describe a procedure for Cleaning a Bulk Storage Drum.
SCOPE
This procedure is applicable for the Cleaning of Bulk Storage Drums.

PROCEDURE
Contents of manufacturing are transferred to the storage vessel once the bulk release is given by the QC Dept. To exclude the possibility of cross-contamination or contamination with foreign particles, cleaning the storage vessel as per the prescribed cleaning procedure is imperative.
PROCEDURE
- Wipe all the waxy contents from the drum with the help of a lint-free clean cotton cloth.
- Clean the entire exterior and drum interior with steam for approximately 10 minutes.
- Clean the drum with the help of hot water Teepol (0.1%) mixture (approx. 70°C).
- Rinse with DM water at least twice to remove the traces of detergent.
- Finally, rinse with distilled water.
- Ensure the absence of detergent by checking the pH of rinse water (distilled).
- Dry the interior and exterior surfaces with a lint-free cloth.
- Sanitize with 70 % Isopropyl Alcohol.
- Affix an appropriate cleaning label.
HARD-TO-CLEAN AREAS:
- The bottom groove, circular groove on the lid of the drum, and grooves on the clamp of the top lid are the areas that are hard to clean. Therefore proper care must be taken to clean the listed areas as per the following procedure :
- Clean these areas with the help of steam.
- Clean the areas with hot water – Teepol (0.1%) mixture with the help of a nylon brush to remove all accumulated.
- Wash repeatedly with DM water to remove all traces of detergent.
- Finally, rinse with fresh distilled water.
- Check the pH of rinse water (distilled water) to ensure the absence of detergent.
- Wipe the drum dry with the help of a clean lint-free cotton cloth.
- Sanitize with the help of 70 % Isopropyl Alcohol.
- Affix a suitable label to indicate the cleanliness of the storage vessel.
