SOP for Cleaning Procedure for FTIR

OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for cleaning of Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectrophotometer. 

SCOPE

This SOP shall be applicable for the Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectrophotometer installed in the Quality Control Laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITY

Execution: Chemist and above-QC department

PROCEDURE

• Frequency: Daily or after each use 
• Open the front part of the instrument. 
• Wipe out any material in the sample holder assembly by means of tissue paper. 
• Clean all the sampling accessories with tissue paper after analysis and keep them in the proper place. 
• Clean the outer surface of the instrument with tissue paper. 

• Place the ‘self-indicating’ coarse silica gel in the sample holding assembly 
• If the color of the silica gel changes from blue to pink, regenerate the silica gel by keeping it in the oven for some time till it gets blue color again. 
• After completion of cleaning of the FTIR, record the cleaning details in the instrument log card as per the current version of SOP. 
• Precautions: 

1. Never switch off the instrument. 
2. Never place water near the instrument.
