SOP for Cleaning and Sanitization of Drain Traps

OBJECTIVE

To provide a procedure for cleaning and sanitization of drain trap.

SCOPE

All drainage traps in the production area.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Cleaners: For cleaning and sanitization of drain trap.

Supervisors: For checking the cleaning and sanitization of the drain trap.

PROCEDURE

• Lift the lid of the drain trap.
• Drain out the water.
• Scrub the platform of the drain trap with the help of a brush soaked in liquid soap.
• Remove the cover; scrub it with the help of a brush soaked in liquid soap. Scrub the inside of the drain trap with the brush.
• Flush the drain trap & wash the platform using water.

• Check that the drain trap is visually clean.
• Fill the drain trap with 1% calcium hypochlorite.
• Cover the drain trap with a lid.
• Record the details in the logbook, attachment I.
• Frequency: Disinfect the drains daily by changing the disinfecting agent weekly.
• Area: All the areas in production with drain traps.
